TUNBRIDGE WELLS INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT
TWIT October 15, 2008 Seafront, Hastings Another cold & windy early winter's evening saw 16
hardy competitors line up to see who would walk away as the 2008 TWIT winner.
Seven of these players were confident enough to wager a fiver each in a winner
takes all bet, for six it was a waste of money. After the long journey down, the family Robertson hastily
consumed a pre-match KFC then it was down to business on the Hastings Mini
course! Current UK No1 Andy Ex had a University film crew
following him & asking questions between each hole, he used that as an
excuse for an appalling 42 but it didn't seem to affect his playing partner Ant
'His Excellency' Pope, who shot a 38, as did TWIT virgin Nick Chitty. Cockney
Tel headed up the T.Wells contingency with a 37 but out in front all ready was
2007 TWIT winner Peter 'Empton' Emmerson with a superb 34. Fresh from winning
the Brighton Invitational & the 36 hole Sealand Matchplay Comp he was the
man in form. After a reshuffle of groups the players headed to the
Crazy course where after a shaky start, the current UK No1 started to show form
at last. His 33 was truly astonishing given the distractions of the film crew,
only matched by the eventual winner. Big Top Ted making his TWIT debut & Trev 'Pumbah' Ex
both carded 35's, Trev's score forcing a playoff with UK No1 for 2nd T.Wells
player. Incredibly, Cockney Tel shot a 36 to give him the T.Wells win & 200
Ranking Points. He may possibly feel guilty now about 'buying' the current UK
No1's course notes in exchange for one paltry prize donation - but then again he
probably doesn't. Another notable 36 was Jo Williamson making her TWIT debut
too. Which leads us to the winner, after rounds of 34 & 33,
Peter 'Emmerson' Empton triumphed again with an awesome six shot win over
Cockney Tel in 2nd. Six players were heard muttering under their breath as they
handed over their fivers. Watch out for him in the upcoming WC's, he's in form! Future star Alex Ex won the junior prize & enough
sweets to rot his & all of his friends teeth, Jo was first Lady with Janette
Robertson in 2nd place. Thanks as always to Dave & Marion at the Seafront for
staying open solely for us, also to the Family Robbo & Sean Homer for coming
so far on a weekday evening. Also thanks for the prize donations, no one went home
empty handed, though some wish they had! Another fun TWIT seemingly enjoyed by all! "What's that" I hear you ask - "no mention
of Ace Man, was he there?" Sorry - he was there but way down in *th place - Happy
Days!
