TWIT October 23, 2007 Seafront, Hastings

A very cold, dark October evening on Hastings seafront was the setting for the 2nd annual twit. This year 17 hardy players lined up, sadly a late unavoidable pullout by the family Robbo & Marion Homer prevented an increase in numbers over last year.
A change in format this year meant that the leaders would all be together after the first round on the mini course, for the 2nd round on the crazy course - using the rules from the VMWCGC final. The Sealand matchplay tournament was held in the afternoon pre-TWIT, with Peter Emmerson triumphing over Anthony Pope, both of whom spent all day practicing, with peter scribbling notes on bits of paper stuffed in his back pocket. These were to come in handy later...
Rocky Bullin set a new record, playing only three holes before having a tantrum and storming off.
The top 3 from last year, Ace Man, Sean Homer & Andy Exall had varying success this year. Only Sean seemed to cope with the extreme cold well enough to post good scores, a brace of fine 36's was good enough for runner up spot again this year. Next year's runner up will win a bridesmaid's dress Sean - watch out!
Two aces courtesy of Andy & Tel gave Ruth Bullin a quality 34 on the crazy, her total of 75 pipping Ace Man by one shot for 3rd place. Trev Ex was next after Ace Man, grabbing 5th spot & more importantly a whole year of bragging rights as top Tunbridge Wells player. Last year's 2nd place playoff loser, Andy Ex came next, his only highlight of the evening coming courtesy of a playoff victory over newly crowned Sealand no2, Anthony Pope, with Tel Ex, Andy Booth and Chris Deeley rounding off the top 10.  Peter Emmerson's combination of all day practice, note taking & afternoon Sealand tournament victory gave him the edge needed to walk off with the 2007 twit, a solid round of 37 on the mini slightly spoilt by a 5 on the notorious 12th, left him a shot behind Sean going into the crazy round, where a classy 34 saw him leapfrog the team Kent captain and take the title, bottles & massive cash prize! Never a competition winner, now twice in one day!
Top lady was again Ruth, followed this year by Jane booth, with Sally & Jake Booth taking the junior prizes. A nice warm up for the VMWCGC seemingly enjoyed by all, except maybe the Deakon, who was moaning that his ball was knocked out of the way 4 times in the crazy round, otherwise he'd have beaten Tel to the vital T.Wells 3rd spot - yeah right!
Thanks to all for playing & special thanks to all who donated prizes.
Congratulations to Peter - 2007 twit!
