Another blustery day another PHCGC Open, this year all four Hastings courses - a test of endurance.

The first round was at Clambers, again excellently prepared by Ted Skelton.  After a less than convincing start Tim 'Ace Man' Davies lived up to his nickname coming back with five aces and taking an early lead.  Closely followed by Peter Parr, one shot behind on 35, he too managed the same number of aces.  Only two others made sub 40 scores, the ever dangerous Mr Michael Webb and the fiercely competitive Graham Southern.  The story of the round was the disaster that had befallen 'Big Top' Ted McIver, a monstrous 45, including a 3 at the innocuous 18th and no aces.

The second round saw the same groupings setting off for the seafront choosing either to play the Crazy Golf or the adventure golf first.  The grouping of Rob Smith, Jo Peedell and Andrew Raeburn roared around at breakneck speed and had to amuse themselves with tales of how ill Jo was whilst waiting for the slowcoaches.  In the end they could hold themselves back no longer and set off on the last round.  In their own private tournament Rob Smith was victorious.

John McIver fought back bravely on the Adventure course with a solid 39 and Steve Gow hit the same and continues to improve in every tournament.   'Ace Man' equalled the BMGA course record of 37 and continued to build a healthy lead over second placed Peter Parr, who was joined by Mr Michael Webb at the end of the round on a cumulative score of 78.

The crazy golf proved demanding in the windy conditions, again McIver put in a good round to finally enter the top three.  Parr fell away and Webb and Davies matched each other.

In the last round where the wind proved even more difficult to cope with 'Ace Man' had a seven shot lead, but unlike in the British Open he had a clear game plan.  Beat his playing partners by as many shots as possible, which became, just get the ball close on the closing holes.  In the end he won by ten clear shots.  McIver's hopes of second place were dealt a cruel blow at the fifth, a difficult plateau hole.  His first shot stopped an inch short of the hole and the wind blew it off the plateau, he took another four shots to hole it.  At the next he took a four, he would have to settle for third place.  Mr. Michael Webb played consistently well to claim second place.

The Bullins, Ruth (British Womens Champion) and Bill (British Senior Champion) had a personal battle of their own, Ruth led Bill by one shot going into the final round.  Ruth lost on the final two holes carding two 3's to Bills ace and a two.

A really fun event, enjoyed by all.  A sincere Thank you to David and Marion on the seafront courses and Ted Skelton at Clambers.

Same again next year! Four courses!!
