DREXLER BUTCHERS McIVERS PLANS
STRATFORD-UPON-AVON June 8. Jonathan Drexler (USA) emerged victorious in this classic encounter as the top Brits fought to the last man. McIver's hopes of the Grand Slam were dealt a cruel blow as he floundered at the last, posting a bogey three to Drexler's sound par.
Having his hopes scuppered, McIver then had to go into a sudden-death play-off for second place against the irrepressible Tim Davies. In what turned out to be a demonstration of Scottish mettle and Welsh passion, McIver overcame Davies on the fifteenth extra hole with a deft fifteen foot ace to win the £200. What a tournament!
