If you’re bored with the traditional ways of playing
miniature golf, try some of these! A
lot of kids seem to arrive on the course with ways of scoring derived from the
latest computer crazy golf games.
You may wish to review what you might be missing here:
Mini golf is scored the same way as stroke play golf.
Here’s one alternative:
Highest score wins. Each
hole has to have a par value. (Thanks Sheila)
Alternate Minigolf Games (Thanks F1)
These games have traditionally been played as team match play
events but can be adapted for single player or stroke play. They are normally
played for drinks. All other normal
rules of minigolf apply. Serious minigolfers carry an array of balls with
differing qualities such as bounce, hardness, finish and size in a bag.
The bag game.
The opposition are allowed to place a hazard (traditionally a small
Fun Sports bag) on the course. It cannot be placed so that any part of the bag
is over the hole. It must be placed so that a legal minigolf shot can be played,
so for example it cannot be placed over a pipe if that is the only legal path
for the ball to reach the hole. And you end up learning new lines through
playing it!
Opponents Choice.
The opponents get to choose the ball that you have to play on each
hole.
Ball per hole.
A ball per hole is chosen at random before the competition and that
ball has to be used by all competitors on that hole.
The ace game.
You have to play each hole until you ace it from the tee. Normal 7
shot rule applies, otherwise you could be there all day.
Last Player Standing. (Thanks Ted)
Play a course with a group of people. Anyone getting a 3 or more is eliminated from the game, get a
2 go on to the next hole anyone getting a one gets to miss the next hole and see
who the last player standing is.
Crazy Billiards. (Thanks Trevino)
Best with 3 or more players, each with different coloured balls.
Draw lots for first to play, then each player takes their tee shot.
Points are scored as follows:
For hitting any other opponents ball 1 pt, or balls 1pt per ball,
or going in off, 1pt plus 2 points for being first into hole.
If the first player aces he gets 2 points and no one else gets to
play that hole.
As soon as one ball is in the cup, play finishes at that hole and
moves on to the next.
However, the last player to tee off has three balls AND the hole to
aim at, so choose your shots wisely!
The first player to hole out has the 'honour' at the next hole.
Player with most points after 18 holes wins!
Nth stroke flag format.
Each competitor has n strokes only, and places their flag where their final shot comes to rest. The winner is the competitor whose ball is the furthest around the course after his or her nth stroke. If the resting position of the player’s nth shot cannot be determined, the flag is placed at the point where the ball was last struck. So the flag doesn't interfere with others, the distance of the final shot from the centre of the hole can be recorded along with what hole they're on and what round!
Speed Crazy Golf.
You have a set time of say 10 minutes to get as far round the course as you can get. You must wait for the ball to stop before playing your next shot! As above, a marker is used to determine your final resting point. If the round is completed you'll have a time to compare with others.
Or you could use the following rules:
Crazy Golf rules (sort of crazy)
Planet Hastings rules (sort of whacky)
