LONDON OPEN MINIGOLF TOURNAMENT 2005

Steve Vallory

Position: 1
Prize money: £150
Pre-tournament ranking: 7

Steve’s confident putting style was on show and he made light work of the course. Leading at the half way stage with a course record 36, he handled the pressure admirably in the second round with Peter Parr breathing down his neck. A well-deserved victory - could this title be the first of many?

+ Managed an ace on hole 10 in both rounds. First tour victory and a very impressive display

- His family weren’t there to witness it

Peter Parr

Position: 2
Prize Money: £75
Pre-tournament ranking: 12

Former London Open Champion, Peter hadn’t played for almost a year prior to this event, making his performance all-the-more impressive. He kept the pressure on Steve Vallory right until the end with an excellent final putt on the 18th from beyond the hole. Peter now seems to have addressed the problems he was having with his grip.

+ Found a new line on 14th which rewarded him with an ace. Peter proved he is still a force to be reckoned with and moves back into the top ten.

- Had an unfortunate OOB on the 13th in the first round.

Brad Shepherd

Position: 3
Prize Money: £25
Pre-tournament ranking: 11

A popular player on the circuit who has excelled in every tournament he has played at Broomfield Park. Won his place in the British Team off the back of his first performance as a Novice and is steadily moving up the rankings. He came from behind to force a play-off with Keith “the play-off kid” Kellard, winning it at the 3rd extra hole. Ironically, this was the same hole at which he was defeated in a play-off in the LIT, earlier this season.

+ Brad’s second round scorecard contained 17 twos. Climbs in the rankings and is now into double figures in prize money.

- None

Keith Kellard

Position: 4
Pre-tournament ranking: 5

Recent winner of the London Invitational at Broomfield Park, Keith had put a lot of practice into the bank and was hoping to earn the interest on Saturday. Unfortunately his hard work failed to pay dividends, although he does move up at least a place in the rankings at the expense of Jon Angel.

+ Played well to post sub-40 scores in both rounds.

- Another play-off defeat - his record is 1/6. A lack of aces once again proved costly at Broomfield Park
Ruth Bullin

Position: 5
Pre-tournament ranking: 14

Another excellent performance has reaffirmed Ruth’s place in the British minigolfing elite.

+ Ruth’s second round of 37 was one off the record. A mesmerising 8 ft putt for 2 on the 13th and an equally good recovery on 17th were the highlights.

- 4s on the 5th and 18th proved costly

Michael Webb

Position: 6
Pre-tournament ranking: 2

+ Second round of 38 was up to Michael’s usual high standard

- A 5 on the 18th in the first round was very uncharacteristic

John "Ted" McIver

Position: 7
Pre-tournament ranking: 4

+ Climbs in the rankings, gaining on Tim Davies. Still one of the favourites in the British Championship in Stratford On Avon next month.

- His clobber was more impressive than his putting. It is usually the other way round.

John Moore

Position: 8
Pre-tournament ranking: 49

+ 15 consecutive two’s in the first round gave John an excellent platform. Seems to be able to handle almost any sport at the top level.

- John saw his challenge for top novice crumble with a 5 on the 18th

Lionel Bender

Position: 9
Pre-tournament ranking: 8

+ Aced the 14th

- Falls in the rankings

Tom Butler

Position: 10
Prize money: £25

Pre-tournament ranking: n/a

+ Won top Novice prize in a play-off on the first hole

- None
Esen Bekir

Position: 11

Pre-tournament ranking: n/a

+ This local player found herself challenging for honours in her debut event.

- Unlucky in the play-off to miss out on top Novice prize
