Weather (if applicable):

Overcast but dry and quite pleasant

Overall playability rating:

8/10

Playability:

Design:

7 Very original. You need 3 dimensional thinking to score well. Plenty of ramps and two volcanoes!

Difficulty Level:

  8 Don't expect a string of 2's!

Skill Factor:

8 Definitely needs a bit of skill, and sometimes a teeny bit of luck (just how I like it!). 8th has choice of ends for your tee shot. 12th has a choice of route, clockwise or anti-clockwise. A couple of raised level greens, so be prepared to play at altitude!!

Maintenance:

8 Owner is very attentive and enthusiastic about his course. Course has suffered a bit of yob-damage, but is repaired very swiftly. Minor design and construction improvements are being made all the time.

Sustainability:

8 An unpretentious and testing course. We played two rounds in quick succession, and enjoyed both equally. Improved marginally in the second round…..by just the one shot!

Other factors:

Appearance:

7 Nicely and logically laid out

Environment:

7 Set in nice Urban Recreation Park with pleasant leafy surroundings. Early days but owner is pleased with custom he is getting. Weekends busiest, but unpredictable at the moment.

Equipment:

8 Good selection of metal putters. Professional low-bounce balls provided. (Conventional Golf balls available on request, although on most holes they won't help!) Excellent card holders provided.

Originality:

8 Highly original Some well thought out holes, and some pretty devious ones too. Owner originally wanted letter shapes for each hole, but budgetary constraints precipitated a small re-think. Now each hole is named after his friends …. Hole one for instance, named after his best mate…. Looks simple, but always has the last laugh!
* That 19th hole is a fifty foot monster, which you can play for an extra pound, with odds of 19 to1 against you making the ace. ie you win £20 for a hole in one. It has been done, but only once since course opened.

Venue Facilities:

6 Refreshments available at course hut. Course Available for Party or Corporate Lets at £25 per hour (Minimum 2 hours) Adjacent Space available for marquee if required. Free Car Parking in Civic Centre Car Park nearby.

Vicinity Facilities:

7 Tennis, Bowls, Children's Adventure Playground, Picnic Area and Walking Routes. Free Car Parking in Civic Centre Carpark nearby.

Value for money:

  7

Reviewer comments:

This was a very enjoyable test of Mini Golf. Simon is a very friendly and enthusiastic proprietor. My only criticism of the course is that teeing off space is a bit tight and addressing the ball in some spots can be a bit restricting. Stairs on some holes are a bit precarious. Janette had a bit of trouble getting up there! ( I suggested a 'Stannah' or 'Churchill' for us oldies!)
I recommend it for a trip out on the Piccadilly Line though. The more use it gets the better it will be! Nearest Station is Hounslow Central on the Heathrow Branch. Turn right out of station. Lampton Park entrance is 250 yards on the left. Course is tucked behind the tennis courts to the left of the entrance.
