Final two rounds
A Kraken awoke as John McIver all but demolished Davies' two round lead with five aces in the third round. With only a one stroke deficit going into the final round McIver felt the title was there for the taking. In McIvers own words "I came to the 10th knowing that I could reach out and touch Davies but the ill fortune that happened on the 10th, 11th and 12th normally occurs only once in a round". McIver carded 3 threes on these normally aceable holes and Davies only managed two shots better. However the tide had turned and the Kraken returned to the seabed with nothing more than a sorry look on his face. A future threat did emerge in the final round as Steve Garton posted a fine 39. Peter Parr's approach was one of the pupil at school as he posted a woeful 41, including a 7 at the fifteenth. The second round saw a little improvement, but the school report was still 'must do better'.

First two rounds
Tim 'Ace Man' Davies breaks Clambers BMGA record and leads in Hastings Invitational Tournament after 2 rounds by five shots.
The first 2 rounds of the 4 round Hastings Invitational tournament started under grey skies and swirling rain. For Peter Parr and John Angel this was first and foremost an opportunity to gain valuable experience playing on the Clambers course which later this year will host the British Open.
For Ted McIver a chance to beat the current holder - Britain's number one Tim Davies .
And McIver came fast out of the blocks at the start of the first round - acing the 2nd and 3rd - however sloppy play at the 5th - followed by some trademark Davies brilliance on the 8th and 9th meant that Davies once more was ahead in the HIT, it was a lead that thereafter was never seriously threatened.
Though Peter Parr played steady golf throughout the first round to card a 37 - only one 3 on his scorecard, alas though no aces at all over 18 holes - he still finished one shot behind Davies. McIver despite hitting 5 aces had also shown no consistency, finishing level with Peter on 37.
John Angel had a round he would rather forget, finishing with a 43-though on a relatively unfamiliar course he felt that this was valuable experience for later in the season.
In the second round once again Davies dominated - his prediction to win every single BMGA tournament this year looks easily attainable .
Over 18 holes Davies hit 7 holes in one to card a remarkable 30. A score that afterwards he felt dissatisfied with - his failure to ace the 17th and 18th denied him an outstanding sub-30 score.
None of his opponents were able to sustain a credible challenge - McIver hit a 34, Parr hit a more than credible 35 and Jon Angel again struggled on the course finishing with a 42.
"I haven't even peaked in form yet" Davies admitted after this devastating display of attacking minigolf. Is there anyone in the country who can meet his challenge?
On today's evidence the answer must be NO.
