Fake World Crazy Golf Championship 2010
Hastings seafront courses, October 17 2010
It's a rare day when Ace Man gets invited to anything, let alone a crazy golf competition. Had Team Kent taken leave of their collective senses? So what was in store for the Hastings Hero? Was this an attempt to humiliate the Leviathan of Crazy Golf in his own backyard? It was difficult to know, much like the Great Man himself. One thing was for sure, Ace Man was wearing his hat, due to Marion of the Hut.
First one out of the gates wasn't Donkey Gringo with a round of 51 including 2 sevens and a six!! This was the man that nearly qualified for the finals of the British Open two weeks previously. Surely the Team Kent psychiatrist can't have got it this wrong. More likely the car journey down had been arduous and difficult, listening to Mr Chumpman talking about himself for an hour and a half. And Marion Homer freed from the hard work of organising/running a tournament, but nevertheless still providing the cookies like a good woman should, faired only slightly better with a 46. Then followed TK Max saddled with the Ace Man in the first round, a 40. Even the two pretenders FreeBird and the Farce could only manage a decidedly average, but one worse, 37.
Ace Man settled on a par. It was up to the youngsters of TK to post a respectable score. AK47 and Hole in One Kenobi raced in with 34 a piece.
The two youngsters continued apace, with AK47 getting an excellent 31 and HIOK a polished 33.
But this wasn't a sprint, it was a marathon. A two day event squeezed into one day with the public on course. Six rounds of crazy golf followed by a final round of crazy crazy golf. Ace Man looked on, waiting, a full five shots back.
The third and fourth rounds saw different pairings. And quite a turn around as Ace Man glided into the lead with two respectable 34's. In the same grouping, FreeBird matched him stroke for stroke. TK Max with Ace Man's wise words ringing in his ears posted a personal best of 33 and a 35.
The fifth and six rounds pairings were based on score, which saw Ace Man & HIOK facing off. HIOK limped off battered and bruised and relegated to fifth place. MC The Farce charged in with a brace of 32's.
On to the final round. MC Chumpman lead by one shot over Ace Man with AK47 a further four behind. And Freebird two off that. So this was to be the first group. The second group consisted of TK Max, HIOK, Double Trouble & Donkey. Four way crazy crazy golf, hmmm it makes one drool.
Frankly, I pitied the public as these two groups slowly grafted their ways around the course. The queue went back to the hut and beyond. Some customers even decided to play the mini instead. But MC 'The Farce' Chumpman still managed to get his notes out just to delay things further.
However that didn't help him as he dropped three shots to par in the first eleven holes. Whereas Ace Man was one under and now had a three shot lead. Two aces followed for both and it was game over.
The winners speech was something to witness as the entire audience glazed over in seconds and yawned there way through some of the most inspired words they might ever have heard. As winner of the team competition neither TK Max or Ace Man were invited to say some words.
Many Thanks to Marion & David and to KMGC for putting on a great competition as part of their KIT.
Remember well, the winner of the fake crazies always goes on to win the World Crazy Golf Championship.
And a final goodbye to the Hastings Mini golf, where McNotInLaos took out Mr Chumpman with an outrageous double lag on the fifth. The ace every hole before you go go was epic and went on for ages..........
A fine treble for Planet Hastings' finest. And a brilliant bingo card filler by the Ace Man, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 to pip AK47 on the 17th.
8 rounds plus of quality crazy golf in one day with excellent company, it doesn't get any better than that. Donkey still had to get home, another hour and a half of incessant self gratification from Choppers, and gaulingly paying a tenner for the privilege.
