Pre event press release

The 2010 British Minigolf Association season begins on Sunday 24th January 2010 when the Adventure Island Minigolf course at Star City, Birmingham hosts the BMGA National Open.

Over 30 British Minigolf Association (BMGA) Tour players, along with a number of local players, are expected to compete over three rounds (54-holes) on the two 18-hole indoor Adventure Minigolf courses with all eyes on the BMGA National Open title and prizes in a number of categories including top , top novice, top junior and aces champion, plus a family day pass for four people for the top local player in the event (kindly donated by Star City). Entry to the tournament is £15.

The Adventure Island Minigolf course at Star City played host to the BMGA’s first-ever indoor tournament last January when the BMGA Star City Open was won by Birmingham’s Chris Harding who set a new Hidden Cove course record of 25 (-11), the lowest ever score on a UK 18-hole minigolf course by a British player.

Birmingham youngsters Matthew Harding and Owen Johnson, both 10, also did well in the BMGA Star City Open, with Matthew winning the Junior event and Owen, in his BMGA debut, finished in third place in both the Junior and Novice competitions.

Adventure Island Mini Golf Manager John Whitehead said "It is a pleasure to have been chosen to host the first indoor BMGA event of the 2010 season here at Adventure Island in Star City, Birmingham. The courses proved at last year’s inaugural event that they are great fun for all but we hope that again they also offer a great challenge for the competitors in our tournament, we are sure it will be a great weekend of minigolf!"

The BMGA Tour consists of Minigolf ranking events that take place at Minigolf, Crazy Golf and Adventure Golf courses across the UK. Last year there were 22 BMGA Tour competitions and a total of 16 players lifted BMGA Tour titles. Heading into the 2010 season Tim ‘Ace Man’ Davies from Hastings currently sits atop the 2008-2009 BMGA Order of Merit Rankings, while Brighton’s Peter Emmerson was ranked number one in the 2009 BMGA Season-Only Ranking list.
