BMGA British Junior MiniGolf Championships 2002

BMGA British Junior MiniGolf Championships 2002

27th July. Venue: Clambers, Hastings

In the augural British Junior Minigolf Championships, Robert Smith swept to victory with two aces in the last two holes.  Henry Oakes led by two shots with two holes to play and looked to be in control but a bogey at the last cost him the title.  Both players were in the 12-14 age group and showed a skill beyond their years.  Indeed their scores of 40 and 41 respectively would have beaten some of the players at the BMGA British Open last year.  Sam Perkins was third.

The British Junior Minigolf Championships 9-11 year old age group was won convincingly by Timothy Shimwell with a cultured display of putting.  Daryl Cornford was second and Ashley Bates third.

The 6-8 year old age group was won in an exciting play-off on the first extra hole by Christopher Pemberton who literally jumped for joy.  Fergus Gardiner settling for second place with Bethany Pepper third.

Ted Skelton, the organiser of the event was very pleased with the excellent standard of play and promises the event will be bigger and better next year.  The Clambers course in Hastings, one of the toughest in the UK, is hosting the BMGA British Open again this year.
